A Stack of Quick Sketches

Some quick sketches that have been piling up: Last September I went to Brooklyn to see Doug Skinner perform: [caption id="attachment_2203" align="aligncenter" width="348"]Doug Skinner at Jalopy, Brooklyn. Unfortunately I couldn't catch the name of their bassist. [caption id="attachment_2204" align="alignleft" width="490"]The Ladies Auxiliary Ukulele Orchestra, 08.24.14. The Carolina Chocolate Drops and the Spirit Family Reunion in Northampton, 04.11.14

The Calvin Theater in Northampton, MA is an old movie house converted for live music shows. It's not an intimate performance space at all, therefore a tough place to try to sketch the way I do. I gave it a whirl anyway. Bobtown and Roosevelt Dime, 08.12.13

Music Festivals are not ideal places to draw. At least, not the main stages. I can't get close enough, usually, well, it's not the intimate situation I'm used to. At the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival this past August I was lucky to be granted a backstage pass thanks to one of my performer friends. This allowed me to sit stage right with a strange but interesting view of the stage. I was drawing the "Emerging Artists," who get two songs apiece, so this was also quick work. Among these "Emerging Artists,' were several bands I've been following for some time already. Here are two favorites: Roosevelt Dime: Seth Paris, Eben Pariser, and Andrew Green.
