The Carolina Chocolate Drops and the Spirit Family Reunion in Northampton, 04.11.14

The Calvin Theater in Northampton, MA is an old movie house converted for live music shows. It's not an intimate performance space at all, therefore a tough place to try to sketch the way I do. I gave it a whirl anyway. Ben Demerath and Dave Chalfant at Lumber Yard in Amherst, 03.22.14

Dave Chalfant and Ben Demerath lit up Lumber Yard restaurant in AMherst, MA on 3.22.14. Lumber Yard has great food as well: I recommend the Duck Confit sandwich. Bobtown and Roosevelt Dime, 08.12.13

Music Festivals are not ideal places to draw. At least, not the main stages. I can't get close enough, usually, well, it's not the intimate situation I'm used to. At the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival this past August I was lucky to be granted a backstage pass thanks to one of my performer friends. This allowed me to sit stage right with a strange but interesting view of the stage. I was drawing the "Emerging Artists," who get two songs apiece, so this was also quick work. Among these "Emerging Artists,' were several bands I've been following for some time already. Here are two favorites: Roosevelt Dime: Seth Paris, Eben Pariser, and Andrew Green. My Work in the Window

My illustration "Downton Sounds" appears in the window of the music store, Downtown Sounds, for the next month or so. It was commissioned by the owner, Joe Blumenthal, and features the staff of Downtown Sounds, all holding ukuleles.
