New Art Exhibit Opening, September 30

Monday, September 19th, 2011

I’m very excited to announce that the M Shanghai String Band will be performing at the opening of my upcoming exhibit at the Jalopy Theatre, “The Fabulous Jalopy at Five Years.”

The M. Shanghai String Band really taught me how to draw bands. They are a large band, and they move constantly to share three mics on the small Jalopy stage. They work together sensitively and seamlessly. From drawing them I learned to tie the visual to the aural in order to solve the problem in the picture plane. Here’s a ukuleleChicken history of the M. Shanghai String Band at Jalopy.

Here are the details of the exhibit. It promises to be an exciting night. See you there!

on-location drawings by Robin Hoffman

Opening reception: Friday, September 30, 2011; 6-8 PM
Show runs until November 11, 2011
at the Fabulous Jalopy Theatre and School of Music, 315 Columbia Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn

Come celebrate the art show that celebrates the fifth anniversary of the Fabulous Jalopy Theatre! These drawings were captured live by artist Robin Hoffman during performances in 2011, using pencil and watercolor.

The opening reception will feature live music by the M Shanghai String Band, plus a screening of Elif Alp’s documentary short film, “The Fabulous Jalopy,” which has been accepted in to the 2011 Coney Island Film Festival.

Really good cookies will be served. Please come!

Robin Hoffman is a dancer-turned-illustrator who loves the way bodies arrange themselves to make music. She has been drawing at Jalopy since 2008. This is her third solo exhibition at the Fabulous Jalopy Theatre.
